Lorem Ipsum Generator

A Lorem Ipsum generator creates placeholder text — blocks of nonsense words designed to look like real prose, used by designers, writers, and developers when the actual copy is not yet available. The name and much of the vocabulary trace back to a corrupted Latin passage from Cicero's De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum (45 BC), scrambled by an unknown printer in the 1500s for a type specimen book. That accidental act of typesetting produced the most recognisable placeholder text in the world.

The point of Lorem Ipsum is not Latin — it is distraction avoidance. Readers and clients who see real copy during a design review often focus on the words, not the layout. Lorem Ipsum keeps attention on typography, hierarchy, spacing, and colour. Because it uses real Latin letter frequencies, its visual rhythm closely matches English or other Western-language text, so line lengths, hyphenation, and widows behave the way they will in production.

Designers use it for mockups in Figma, Sketch, and Adobe XD. Developers populate CMS templates so the layout does not collapse when a field is empty. Printers and typesetters reach for it as part of font specimen sheets. It also shows up in wireframes, coding tutorials, UI component libraries, and onboarding screens.

This generator produces customised Lorem Ipsum by paragraph, sentence, or word count. You can start with the iconic opening phrase, "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet…", or drop straight into randomised filler. You can wrap the output in HTML <p> tags, which is useful when pasting into a CMS rich-text area or templating engine. Every request regenerates a fresh block so no two outputs are identical.

A few things to avoid. Do not ship Lorem Ipsum to production — search engines index placeholder text and a visible "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet" on a public page suggests the site is unfinished. Do not use it for copy that a translator will eventually work on — they need real structure and word counts to estimate effort. And when you share mockups with a client, label the blocks as placeholder so no one mistakes it for draft copy.

1. Pick the unit. Choose paragraphs, sentences, or words depending on what your layout needs. Paragraphs are best for blog-style mockups; sentences are ideal for headlines, card copy, and captions; words are helpful for testing button labels or truncation behaviour.
2. Set the count. Enter any number between 1 and 100. A typical blog post mockup uses 4–8 paragraphs; a landing page card needs 2–3 sentences.
3. Decide whether to start with "Lorem ipsum…". Enable the toggle for the iconic opening when you want the placeholder to read as obviously fake. Disable it for a more generic-looking block.
4. Wrap in paragraph tags if needed. Toggle the <p> wrap when you plan to paste straight into a WordPress editor, an MDX file, or a rich-text component.
5. Copy or download. Use the Copy button to place the output on your clipboard, or download a .txt file for offline use.
